Fly Fishing Thailand

"On a recent trip in May to Bangkok, I spent a couple of days fly fishing with a wonderful Scot named Max Mackenzie Skues. I had a great stay at his villa, just outside Bangkok, where his Thai-Chinese wife was an exceptional hostess and chef. The food was outstanding and she even had massage experts come in to give us a 1.5 hr traditional Thai massage one of the nights after a long day fly fishing. NICE!

 Caught double-digit barramundi, on each of 2 days, ranging from 8-15 lbs. On another day we fished from a boat in a private lake for a variety of exotic fish, some weighing up to 100 lbs. Unfortunately, I didn’t catch any of the large ones, however, I did land a nice Arowana. Note the Ray Schmidt Salmon Snake that finally enticed the fish.

All in all an exceptional  fly fishing destination and host."

"A 30 Barramundi day.....

This was the most amazing fly fishing day in my life ! The smallest fish I caught was 7 lbs and most were over 10 lbs. This is the strongest fish I've ever had the pleasure to catch. Words cannot convey my excitement.

The entire experience of staying with Max and his lovely wife Grace was absolutely delightful: superb food and plenty of it, a very nice house, loads of fishing books & magazines, hot shower, air con, free laundry service -

"This was a great fly fishing experience in every aspect. Not only was the fly fishing superb but also the company, hospitality and accommodation. I caught 13 fish averaging 6 to 11 lbs. The barramundi are the hardest fighting fish pound for pound. The initial strike is something else. Awesome day with fantastic people - I have to do it again soon. Exceeded my expectations !!  ☺"

"Starting out a completely new fly fishing experience with an early caught Barramundi during a "bad weather" day felt great. It was a good and rewarding challenge to to make the Barra go for the fly but when they did it was more than worth the effort. Crown of the day was a beautiful 13.5 lb. Barra.

This was a crazy fishing day having a Barra at the first cast and they were even stronger than the day before. We found the hot spot giving 12 fish in 2.5 hours.

Really remarkable fly fishing, all in all.

Never saw a Barramundi in my life before. They are surprisingly tough fighters. Max is a delight, surpassed only by Grace. First time I caught an Amazon Red tail Catfish on a fly - surprising fighters -they just keep going !

Grace cooks great food - wish I could take her home !!

One Amazon Red Tail Catfish went uncomfortably deep into my backing (200 yards) and I had to follow it until it threw the hook. A HUGE Barramundi threw the hook while head thrashing 

Sorry to leave - Grace fed me too well - trousers are tight
