Q  Does the climate fluctuate in Thailand ?

A  Yes, although Thailand is hot it is not unbearable, in fact it is an agreeably hot climate. There are three distinct seasons -

Hot Season - March to May. Dry & temperatures 27 - 35 Deg C

Rainy Season - June to October. Wet & temperatures 24 - 32 Deg C

Cool Season - December to February. Some rain with temperatures 18 - 32 Deg C

Q  Do the seasons effect the fly fishing ?

A   Not too much. Barramundi and Predator fishing in Thailand is excellent throughout the year. Jungle fly fishing peaks at it’s best during the rainy & cool season, yet still produces good fly fishing during the hot season. There is excellent fly fishing available in Thailand throughout the year.

Q How rainy is the rainy season ? Is it like a monsoon season ?

A  In Thailand the rain comes in sudden, unexpected bursts and stops as quickly as it arrives. The longest period of rain we have experienced was overnight for 12 hours. Usually the rain lasts for an hour or two - but there is plenty of it. This rain pattern occurs during all seasons. More frequent in the rainy season - less frequent during the dry season. These short downpours do not effect the fly fishing in Thailand.

Q  How does the rain affect fly fishing in Thailand ?

A   Generally, the rain comes in short bursts. We take cover until it subsides, when we continue fly fishing. On Khao Laem, the water is vast and can develop micro climates. Often, when we get hit by a rainstorm, our boatman takes us to a fly fishing mark elsewhere on the lake where it is not raining. We often use boats with canopies which offer protection from both sun and rain. If the rain is torrential we take shelter ashore until it passes - usually about half an hour. The fly fishing after the rain is markedly improved.

Q  Does the bright sun affect fly fishing in Thailand ?

A  Not in the least. If anything the Barramundi take better in brighter sunshine. It has no effect upon the large predators, except they are easier to spot. In the jungle we fly fish in high sided flooded valleys which provide shade for the fish.

Q  Will I find it too hot in Thailand for to fly fishing ?

A   The heat affects different people in different ways. None of our guest have stopped fly fishing because it has become too hot to fish. By accepting our advice, wearing appropriate clothing, drinking plenty of water, taking short breaks in the shade and not over reaching oneself - all is well. Also, the waters we fish tend to attract cool breezes most of the time. The Jungle Climate is NOT like equatorial rainforest - it is far more comfortable in Thailand.

Q  Is it very hot at night and will it affect my sleep ?

A  The outside temperature tends to be lower at night but it is still very warm. Whilst staying with us and whilst travelling, your room is fully air conditioned to ensure a comfortable nights sleep. You wake rested and refreshed ready for the days fly fishing ahead.

Q  Will I find it hot when travelling ?

A   No. All our vehicles are fully air conditioned.

Q  Will I like Thai food ?  Is it very hot ?

A   Food is a personal taste. Hot and spicy food does not suit everyone. When at home we offer a variety of authentic Thai, Chinese and Western style food. When away, we can guide you in selecting food. Thai food can be very hot, it can also be delightfully spicy without the searing heat of chillies.

Q  I’m worried about getting an upset stomach and it’s consequences

A   People often associate travelling in hot countries with digestive disorders. This frequently occurs because, despite many health warnings, people will eat in cheap places and buy food from street vendors. We take great care to ensure all of the food you consume is from safe and tested sources. Should you take ill with a digestive disorder resulting in a severe laxative effect - we have the medication on hand to put you right very quickly. If you become ill please tell us immediately - we can help.

Q  What food is on your menu ?

A   We don’t provide menus. We enquire about your food likes and dislikes and discuss with you what you may like to eat and provide food on this basis. We recently hosted a guest who wanted to eat take-out fast food. No problem - we can have MacDonalds and Pizza Hut deliveries to the house - if that’s what you want. When fly fishing at most locations we take a large, weel stocked cooler.

Q  What is the food like when we go jungle fishing ?

A   The choice becomes limited because of the remote location. Our resort provides a menu which appeals to Western tastes. When we go fly fishing in the boat, our boatman’s wife cooks freshly prepared food in the morning for us to take for lunch and tea. Max, the fussiest eater in Thailand, enjoys this food.

Q  What times do you serve meals at your villa ?

A   We do not have set meal times. We eat when you are hungry and as often as you like. We generally discuss our fly fishing plans and agree an estimated time to eat beforehand.

Q  When do we eat when fly fishing in the jungle ?

A   We aim to eat breakfast at 7:30 (or thereabouts) which allows for an 8 am boat departure. We take two meals each to eat on the boat. After we return from fly fishing we can eat dinner until 8:00 p.m. at the latest.
