An Introduction on the Different Types of Fishing

Angling comes in different forms, depending on the kind of fish you want to catch and the location where you want to throw your lines. Whether you are amateur or pro, it would be a good idea to try different methods.

Surface

If you like catching carp during summer, then this is the game for you. Begin by throwing some loose feeds in the water and then watch out for telltale swirls. After which, cast out and wait. It will not take long before a carp suck in the bait and fight hard to escape.

Float

This game uses bright coloured and highly visible devices, which allow you to fish your bait at different depths and detect bites easily. It is important to remember that when angling with these apparatuses, you should determine the deepness of the water to ensure that the buoys are set correctly with only their tips visible above the surface. You can use a sinker for this purpose.

Ledgering

If you are tired of the amateur work and want a more challenging catch, then ledgering is for you. This is where you will take the lure to the bottom of the water in order to catch bigger fish. This is a great method to use in deep and strong current water, like a river.

Freelining

This is the technique popularly used in still waters, such as lakes. It uses no weight except the snare itself, and is really effective for catching carp and tench because it makes the lure look so natural.

Freelining is done by throwing loose feeds near reeds or fishy pots close to the banks. Put then some particles on the hook and lower it (no need to cast) in the water. After which, sit back and be patient until there is a sudden movement in the line.

Fly

This is the method used by most experienced angler to catch trout. From the name itself, the hooks used resemble a natural fly. They are very gaudy in design, triggering the fish’s attack mechanism. To be an expert in this one and to have a successful catch, you must learn about the kind of insect breeding near the water where you are fishing.

Sea

This is obviously done on large bodies of saltwater, and you can do it either from a jetty, the pier, beach, rock, or boat. The line you will use will depend on the place where you want to cast. If you are going to do it from harbour wall, for example, you will need shorter rods. If from the elevated places, you will need something longer.
